This is a very well communicated city that focuses on winemaking sector activities. This tradition dates all the way back to its Iberian origins; later, the members of the Order of Calatrava engaged in growing grapes, and in Madrid there are still numerous taverns that continue to sell Valdepeñas Wine.
A visit to the Museo del Vino, a winery dating from 1905, leads us through the grape varieties and geographic conditions that make these wines special and the winemaking process, with its surprising wine cellar of earthenware jars and its cave, complete with even the famous wine-producer’s jar. But Valdepeñas is also a city that fosters culture: it has several museums, such as the Municipal Museum, Fundación de Gregorio Prieto and Museo de los Molinos, and sponsors cultural activities and poetry and painting competitions known for their international prestige.
